Blackboot Technology

History

Blackboot Technology was started in 1997 by Bryan Stalcup in response to requests from a couple of small business owners who were looking for help keeping up with the relentless march of technology. Jan Roovers of Jan Roovers Associates, Inc. and gary hixson of hixson design have been working with Blackboot Technology ever since.

Over the last 10 years, enterprise-level hardware features and characteristics (redundancy, performance, reliability) have come down in price significantly and are now consistently with in the reach of small business owners. Blackboot Technology has continued to keep abreast of these changes and offers access to a wealth of experience in meeting the needs of small businesses with technology that just works.

The present

Today, with assistance from a team of other experienced systems administrators, software developers and partners in technology as well as graphic design for custom website development, Blackboot Technology operates as a virtual IT department for small businesses, offering the cost advantages of sharing already developed internet hosting and backup infrastructure and allowing smaller businesses to purchase only as much IT as they need. Blackboot Technology not only offers a full complement of services, but can manage other IT vendor relationships for clients, allowing clients to centralize all technology support and have a single point of contact regardless of which vendors actually have to get involved.

The model

Blackboot Technology simplifies IT support, providing all-you-can-eat support for a set monthly fee. This way, our interests are identical to those of our clients - we make more money when clients’ systems are working well. On the other hand, when our client have problems, we protect our clients from runaway costs. Succeeding at this requires that we architect our systems to just work, for us and for you. If and when there are problems, we learn from them, improve our standards, upgrade all our clients and prevent similar problems from happening again.

Blackboot Technology becomes a proactive business partner - we don’t sell software or hardware, instead we recommend, integrate and support. We act as your in-house IT team, we make your systems work and keep you in the sweet spot of price/performance as you keep your systems up-to-date with our maintained, optimized standards. We run our business on the same infrastructure we share with our clients.

Facilities

We manage our own rackmount webservers at the Charlotte Colocation Center, as well as dedicated servers and customer servers colocated with ours. We also maintain our own, separate data center dedicated to offsite backups for our contract clients.

We are a lightweight, mobile organization, working from anywhere with internet access, without the expense of a retail storefront or commercial square footage. We can support you remotely, working with vendors local to you, or can meet you anywhere in the Charlotte, North Carolina area.
